    Introduction

Set on the northern tip of Mindoro Island, Puerto Galera is one of the Philippines’ most celebrated diving destinations. Known for its vibrant coral reefs, clear waters, and exceptional variety of marine life, it offers an incredible range of dive sites—from colourful shallow reefs to exhilarating drift dives and deep walls.

For this one-week group trip, divers will be based at Lalaguna Villas, a boutique resort located on Small Lalaguna Beach with direct access to more than 30 world-class dive sites, most only minutes away by boat. Expect calm bays, lively reef systems, fascinating wrecks, and the chance to spot turtles, schooling jackfish, and even thresher sharks.

This trip will be led by Lyndi Leggett, Dive Professional and founder of The Scuba Gym Australia, who brings her extensive experience and passion for adaptive diving to create a supportive, engaging, and unforgettable group experience both in and out of the water.

    Know before you go

    How do I get there?

    Closest International Airport: Manila (MNL)

Private VIP transport for the group includes collection in Manila, followed by a two-hour road transfer and a 35-minute speedboat ride directly to the resort. See the MORE INFORMATION section above.

We suggest travelling to Manila on Saturday the 4th, overnight in town and meeting the group for the transfers to Puerto Galera on Sunday the 5th.

Following the week, the transfers from Puerto Galera will take place on Sunday the 12th leaving the option to overnight in Manila or catch an international departure that evening.

Do I need a visa for this trip?

Good news for travellers! Visitors from many countries, including Australia, can enter the Philippines visa-free for up to 30 days for tourism or business. All you need is a passport valid for at least six months beyond your stay and a return or onward ticket.

What level of dive training do I need for this trip?

Non-divers are welcome on the trip, as are Open Water divers. However, to dive Verde Island, you must be a minimum Advanced Open Water diver or equivalent.

What are the dive conditions like?

Generally flat seas with water temperatures are regularly 29-30ºC (84-86ºF) with visibility reaching 20m plus most days. With over 30 local dive sites, there is plenty to choose from, including Wrecks, large coral reefs and of course, Verde Island.

MONEY - Can I pay by card/ phone on the trip?

The local currency is the Philippine Peso (PHP)

The majority of established hotels and restaurants accept major credit cards; however, smaller, family-run places probably will not. There are banks and ATM's with various maximum withdrawal limits and fees. We suggest having some pesos in cash, using the former first.

Nomadic Scuba Top Tip: We use WISE for our transactions, and we save hundreds on pointless fees and exchange rates. If you haven't opened an account yet, we
strongly urge you to do so (it takes 5 minutes).

Do I need dive and travel insurance?

Absolutely, without a doubt! Comprehensive travel and diving insurance is essential for planning any scuba diving trip. Many operators require proof of both before allowing you to participate in their activities or use their services here's why.

We recommend DiveAssure for both dive and travel insurance. You can choose between single-trip or annual coverage.

To arrange your insurance now, please use this link -DiveAssure registration.

Are there any medical reasons why I cannot dive?

Operators providing dive services will require you to complete an RSTC medical declaration. Should you need to answer ‘YES’ to any of the questions then you will need a doctor to sign as authorizing you to be medically fit to dive. You can find an example of the RSTC medical questionnaire here.

Do we need to use dive guides?

Guides are provided free of charge; however, guests are responsible for their own dive profiles and must stay within the limits of their certification. The Guide to guest ratio is 1:4

How does The Scuba Gym benefit from this trip?

In partnership with Lalaguna Villas, Nomadic Scuba typically receives a commission for coordinating and bringing groups to the resort and dive centre. In most cases, this also includes a free spot for the host. For this trip, we are pleased to pass 100% of that commission to Lyndi, along with the complimentary spot for Lyndi to host the group. This support not only allows Lyndi to host an amazing adventure, but it also helps fund the fantastic work Lyndi and her team continue to conduct in Australia.

    Can I extend my stay?

Of course! If you wish to stay longer simply let us know and we will arrange the quote for you.

    Transfer Information

Transport from Manila Airport to the resort involves up to two hours by road, followed by a 35-minute speedboat ride. Due to the timing of international arrivals and the fact that speedboats do not operate after dark, it’s not always possible to complete the full transfer on the same day.

For this reason, the group transfer from Manila to the resort is scheduled for Monday, 6 July 2026. Please note that hotel accommodation in Manila is not included in this package. However, Lalaguna Villas has several partner hotels in the city, and details will be provided once your reservation is confirmed.

We strongly recommend that guests arrive in Manila no later than Sunday, 5 July, as transfer times on the 6th cannot be delayed. We also suggest planning a night stop in Manila on your return journey to allow for any unforeseen delays in transfers back to the airport.
