Know before you go

How do I get there?

The Damai fleet operates throughout Indonesia, moving with the trade winds. Please refer to the schedule of each specific trip for their embark and disembark locations. Within each calendar entry you will find a clickable link displaying the ports involved via Google Maps. You can then check your flights to or from those specific locations via this link Flight Connections

Do I need a visa for this trip?

Visa on arrival is available for many countries which costs USD35. However, VoA also tends to attract significant delays with queues etc.

Nomadic Scuba's advise

To get ahead of the game use the online portal and arrange your visa before you leave home.

Check it out: https:/molina.imigrasi.go.id/

What level of dive training do I need for these trips?

No minimum requirement

Damai I & II cater for divers and non-divers alike. As such, some routes do allow for a Discovery Dive for non-divers and many locations are suitable for Open Water certified divers.

Nomadic Scuba is always on hand to offer advice so if you have more detailed questions please get in touch. If we don't have the answers right away, we'll get them for you asap.

What are the dive conditions like?

Temperature

In-water temperatures typically range from 26°C/76°F to 28°C/82°F, but can occasionally vary from 30°C/86°F to 17°C/65°F. A 3mm wetsuit is usually sufficient for most areas, with a hooded vest as a good extra backup. If you get cold, you can use the thicker wetsuits onboard, which are free for All-Inclusive guests.

Currents

Currents also vary from site to site, however, it is the currents that tend to attract larger pelagic species. The dive staff are very knowledgeable and will always perform current checks before any dive and offer the information to you during the dive briefing.

Visibility

Visibility ranges from 5 to 40 meters. Again this depends on the location and the water movement. if you are macro hunting in the calmer waters then the viz tends to be lower than in the fast-paced currents where the water is washing particulate through and revealing higher ranges of viz.

Rest assured, you are in good hands with the Damai dive crew. They will always check and report on the dive conditions before you enter a dive. If they feel a diver’s experience is inadequate for a particular dive, they will recommend skipping this dive and waiting for the next one.

MONEY - Can I pay by card/ phone during the trip?

Under Indonesian law, all transactions within the country must be made in Indonesian Rupiah.

Most hotels, resorts, shops, and restaurants accept credit and debit cards. However, please be aware that smaller currency exchanges may employ 'Magical Miscounting' practices.

Nomadic Scuba Top Tip

Nomadic Scuba uses WISE for our transactions, and we save hundreds on pointless fees and exchange rates.

A WISE account allows you to move/ convert your money to whichever currency you require for a transaction. You can also order a physical card, which when used overseas, will only attract the regular fees levied locally. Use it as a tap-and-go, or in ATMs, local fees only.

Follow this link to set-up your WISE account (it takes 5 minutes).

Do I need dive insurance for this trip?

Absolutely, without a doubt! Comprehensive travel and diving insurance is essential for planning any scuba diving trip. Many operators require proof of both before allowing you to participate in their activities or use their services here's why.

We recommend DiveAssure for both dive and travel insurance. You can choose between single-trip or annual coverage.

To arrange your insurance now, please use this link -DiveAssure registration.

Are there any medical reasons why I cannot dive?

Operators providing dive services will require you to complete an RSTC medical declaration. Should you need to answer ‘YES’ to any of the questions then you will need a doctor to sign as authorizing you to be medically fit to dive. You can find an example of the RSTC medical questionnaire here.

What type of power sockets are on board?

The standard power socket in Indonesia is a European two-prong plug. The camera room on board has both 110V and 220V international power sockets with voltage stabilizers.

Safety whilst charging - We get it, you're on vacation and need to capture that next epic shot, as such, you need to recharge regularly. We do too, however, safety comes first. All operators that we partner with will have a similar outlook to this:

Please follow the onboard guidelines and charge your gear in public spaces or dedicated camera rooms. Minor charging in cabins such as phones is ok, however, please ensure the cabin is not left unattended and the person is awake whilst charging is occurring.

Do we need to use a dive guide?

Guides are provided free of charge, however, guests are responsible for their dive profiles and must stay within the limits of their certification.

Solo diving - If you are qualified to do so, you can solo dive, however, you will need to stay within a reasonable distance of groups in the water so that we can communicate with you should we need to.

Private dive guide - We can arrange a private guide for the duration of your trip at an additional cost of USD 100 per day, plus the flights for the guide to and from ports of embarkation and disembarkation.

Can I extend my stay and do more than one trip?

Of course! As long as the boat has a vacancy. Simply let us know what
you are looking for and we will be happy to provide you with some ideas.
