    Know before you go

    How do I get there?

International Airport: Jacksons International,Port Moresby (POM)

Suggested international flights: You can find many connecting international flights via Manila, Singapore, Brisbane, Cairns, Sydney, Denpasar and Hong Kong.

Domestic Airport: Hoskins, West New Britain (HKN)

Domestic Flights: Air Niugini and Airlines PNG both fly daily between POM and HKN

Here's an easy way to see all the Flight Connections

Nomadic Scuba top tip: The international and domestic terminals at Jacksons International can be busy, Tanoy announcements are not always precise, and delays occur. When you check in for your domestic flight proceed directly to the domestic waiting lounge and keep an eye on the gate screens above the boarding gates. If you encounter any cancellations, Air Niugini has a transfer counter in the main terminal, collect your bags and re-check them onto the new flight.

    Transfers to Walindi Plantation

Upon arrival at Hoskins airport you will be met by one of the Walindi staff, dressed in a Walindi shirt and holding a sign. The drive to Walindi takes no more than 1 hour by road.

Do I need a visa for this trip?

All visitors to PNG require a visa. Currently, a visa on arrival is not an option and even when this becomes available again we would recommend applying online prior to your trip. Tourist visa online application

What level of dive training do I need for these trips?

Diving at Walindi is suitable for all levels of divers. The dive staff will always let you know what to expect of each site and any currents you may experience.

What should we expect from the local climate?

PNG has a tropical climate with consistently warm temperatures and abundant sunshine throughout the year. In Kimbe, temperatures typically range from 24 to 34°C year-round. The rainy season usually spans from January to the end of March, while the dry season occurs from June to August. Located along the equator, PNG experiences infrequent severe storms.

MONEY - Can I pay by card/ phone on the trip?

The currency of Papua New Guinea is the Kina. It can be exchanged at currency counters in most international airports before the trip. Additionally, there is a currency exchange desk and an ATM at the international terminal in Port Moresby.

For those not planning to venture outside Walindi, carrying much Kina is unnecessary. All extras can be charged to the room and paid upon checkout. The resort accepts AUD, USD, Euro, Kina cash, and all major credit cards (MasterCard, Visa, Amex) with no surcharge for credit card payments.

Do I need dive and travel insurance?

Absolutely, without a doubt! Comprehensive travel and diving insurance is essential for planning any scuba diving trip. Many operators require proof of both before allowing you to participate in their activities or use their services here's why.

We recommend DiveAssure for both dive and travel insurance. You can choose between single-trip or annual coverage.

To arrange your insurance now, please use this link -DiveAssure registration.

Are there any medical reasons why I cannot dive?

Operators providing dive services will require you to complete an RSTC medical declaration. Should you need to answer ‘YES’ to any of the questions then you will need a doctor to sign as authorizing you to be medically fit to dive. You can find an example of the RSTC medical questionnaire here.

What are the dive conditions like?

Kimbe Bay's unique topography protects it from extreme weather, allowing access to the reef systems year-round, though conditions vary.

    • September – November: Calm seas and superb visibility of 25m+, but with slightly colder water at around 27°C.
    • December: Conditions are changeable.
    • January – March: The wet season brings very calm waters, but lower visibility of around 15m and an average water temperature of 29°C.
    • May – June: Known as the doldrums, this period features calm seas, clear skies, and almost no wind. Water temperatures are warmer at around 31°C with good visibility of 20m+.
    • July – August: The monsoonal SE trade wind season brings gusts up to 20 knots. Seas can reach up to 1m, and the water temperature starts to drop with visibility around 15m.

Do we need to use dive guides?

Guides are provided free of charge, however, guests are responsible for their dive profiles and must stay within the limits of their certification.

Private dive guide – You can book a private guide at an additional cost.

Nomadic Scuba top tip: A private guide is unnecessary unless you plan to remain in one spot for the entire dive. The visibility is excellent, and you can be assured that yours will be the only boat in the region, let alone at any specific dive site.

    Can I extend my stay?

Absolutely! If you’d like to extend your stay, just let us know, and we’ll be happy to arrange a quote for you. Many of our guests enjoy exploring multiple locations within the same trip. If this appeals to you, we’d be delighted to offer some suggestions. Please keep in mind that booking in advance is recommended, especially for popular destinations and peak seasons.
